Synopsis

INTEREST. The journey of a letter from Africa to Paris.

On the banks of the Nile, the letter is handed over to a dug out canoe paddled by three Africans (54). The canoe arrives beside a felucca and the letter is placed in the post bag by an Arab boy. The felucca sets sail (94). Once docked the Arab boy takes the bag to the chief of the first European post; he leaves the felucca and arrives at a hut. Interior of the hut as the bag is passed over to the European, the boy leaves. The European sorts the post (133). Two large bags of mail are handed over to two Arabs who mount their camels. The men are seen crossing the desert and arriving at a town (203). The letter is then taken by paddle steamer along the Nile from Wadi-Halfa to Chellas in Upper Egypt (251). The steamer docked, passenges and porters disembark (271). Two large wicker baskets are loaded onto the mail train (299). The train, marked S.G.R. A steamer (not the same as the one in Alexandria) arrives in a European port (370). A postman delivers the letter to a woman who takes it to her daughter who is playing in the house, to read (397ft)
