Synopsis

AMATEUR record of an expedition in East Africa made by Glen Kidston. The film concetrates on the baiting of a pride of Lions with a carcass, towed across a savannah from the back of a vehicle, whereupon is mounted the camera itself.

"Their initial timidity overcome they approach the kill" (11). Sequence, mainly MLS, showing up to 5 lions eating a carcass that is attached to a rope. Telephoto CUs of the lion's faces (106). "The same, next day" (118). TRA S of the carcass being dragged. A lion holds on to the bait while others pursue. All five lions attack the carcass as it stops (215). Sequence showing the lions violently attacking the carcass [now more clearly seen - a gazelle?] (262). MLS as the carcass is dragged again. The lions wander around the carcass (297). "Brute strength - The car dragged backwards with brakes on" (309). A lion tussles with the carcass (340). CS, a lion looking sleepy (352). "Lioness and her family" (364). Telephoto shots of a lioness amongst her cubs, shading under a tree (406). LS lions again feeding on the roped carcass, joined by the tiny cubs (452). A shot framed so that it is filled with lions and their cubs at the carcass (461). LS of the lions feeding (567). The larger lions standing around the carcass. The cubs join the group (613). TRA S of carcass in transit again (618). "Playing with the towing wire" (629). The lions play with the carcassless rope (671). "The lion, a fine black maned specimen, displayed a great deal more caution than this troupe and would not approach at all closely (691). Telephoto LSs of a large lion prowling and keeping its distance (714ft).
