SWORD DANCE PERFORMED BEFORE THE KING AND QUEEN IN INDIA

This film is held by the BFI (ID: 60753).

Synopsis

Main title (2). A fakir (dressed only in loin cloth) helps his two assistants to set up a pattern of crossed swords which they hold up. There is a square in the pattern. The fakir dives through the square. He repeats the performance with larger swords. He is watched by a large crowd of Indians (no Europeans in evidence). Another fakir performs a dance with a large sword and a small shield. He approaches another fakir lying on the ground and strikes (?) him with a blow from the sword (48ft).

Note: Presumably filmed on the occasion of the Delhi Durbar of 1911. There is no evidence in the film of the King and Queen attending the event.
