This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ABY 83).

Synopsis

A low-altitude aerial survey of bomb damage in and around Maymyo (now Pyin U Lwin), Burma.

Low altitude (c.100-ft) air-to-ground footage of Maymyo, showing buildings with varying degrees of bomb damage. Some buildings are roofless, others totally destroyed. Bomb damage to nearby railway tracks (probably the Lashio-Mandalay line).

Notes

No slates, date on dopesheet noted as approximate.

Dopesheet adds: 'These shots taken shortly after the town had been occupied and show how the railway was bombed by RAF and USAAF planes. The troops were moving in and the townsfolk waved greetings'.

The cameraman of this piece, Flight Lieutenant Sidney Woodcock, was killed in action. He and his pilot, Flight Lieutenant J G Buchanan of RAF 110 Squadron, failed to return after a Mosquito sortie over Rangoon on 2 May 1945. They are buried in adjacent plots in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Rangoon War Cemetery.
