WHISPERING LEGIONS PART 2 (ledger title)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: COI 21).

Synopsis

Second reel only of a short admonitory official film with an anti-rumour or anti-gossip message. It tells the story of a Bombay stockbroker who sells his shares and evacuates the city because of false rumours of aerial bombing of Bombay, which turns out to be untrue.

(In the absence of the first reel and with no translation of the soundtrack, this synopsis is of necessity provisional and tentative). An Indian man - a Bombay stockbroker - is sitting at the foot of a tree fingering a set of worry-beads/rosary; he is upset by the sight of wheeling birds and aeroplanes, and hurries fearfully to join his wife who is at a well; she appears to dismiss his worries with common sense, but he summons his carriage and is driven to a railway station to use the telephone. He has a long conversation with a very suave and amused younger man (whose speech includes the words "Royal Air Force"), which leaves the stockbroker looking perturbed/foolish; glancing out of the window he is confronted by a 'laughing jackass' which is clearly the last straw.
