Synopsis

Government information programme.

Two items. (1) 'Industrial Singapore - Soap'. Manufacture of soap from surplus coconut oil. The successive stages in the production process are illustrated. Soap making is now one of Singapore's biggest industries. (2) 'Nurses'. Film of a training establishment. Early instruction and work in the wards. "Life is very pleasant". Quarters are light and airy, food is good quality and plentiful. Spacious recreation facilities. Preliminary work is followed by a three-year training programme, culminating in qualification as a registered nurse with good promotion prospects and the possibility of specialising in surgery, maternity work, etc. Wherever she goes the nurse is "calm, efficient, cheerful and tender".
