This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 139).

Synopsis

General Sir George Giffard, commander of 11th Army Group, visits 25th Indian Division during a tour of inspection near Maungdaw, Burma.

Giffard, wearing a rain cape, walks towards camera before climbing into a jeep. The jeep drives away. Giffard meets battalion commanders of 25th Indian Division and is introduced to them by Lieutenant-Colonel Ian Lauder, acting commander of 53rd Brigade. Giffard departs by jeep. Giffard's party climbs a steep hillside before consulting a map.

Notes

Giffard had in fact been dismissed in May 1944 but as no immediate replacement was available he was obliged to remain until replaced by Lieutenant-General Sir Oliver Leese in November 1944.
