KUANTAN, MALAYA: DELIVERY OF RICE BY SUNDERLAND FLYING BOAT (3/10/1945)

Synopsis

Following the crash of a Short Sunderland flying boat of RAF 230 Squadron, delivering rice to the people of Kuantan, Malaya, a second Sunderland arrives to replace the lost rice and recover the crew.

A Sunderland ('Z') passes directly overhead with local people watching it arrive. People watch as it comes in to land. Sunderland landing. Local people on a wooden jetty. People on a river ferry. Sunderland taxiing. Sunderland taxis across shot right-to-left. The crews of the two Sunderlands meet; they enter shot from opposite sides and vigorously shake hands. Closer shot of Flight Lieutenant Moonlight (pilot of 'T for Tommy', the crashed plane) and Squadron Leader Nicholson (pilot of 'Z' ) shaking hands. 'Z' in midstream and 'T for Tommy' behind. 'Z' on her take off run; she lifts off the water. People watch the Sunderland recede into the distance.
