Synopsis

Lieutenant-General Sir Miles Dempsey, newly appointed commander of 14th Army, arrives by air at Mingaladon airfield in Rangoon, Burma, en route to Singapore.

Dempsey seen chatting with Major-General George Symes, commander South Burma District, and Air Marshal Saunders, commander of RAF Burma. Dempsey departs by car. Men march singly past a silver RAF Douglas Dakota transport aircraft.

Notes

Dempsey had been appointed commander of 14th Army following the promotion of Sir William Slim to commander Allied Land Forces South East Asia (ALFSEA). Dempsey had previously been commander of Second Army in northwest Europe.

The dopesheet mistakenly identifies Symes as commander of Twelfth Army.
