This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: MGH 1445).

Synopsis

(9B/second series) September 1945: The first few days of Kibbutz Nitzanim, showing plans and models for the future. Note the Nazi concentration camp numbers tattooed on arms of some kibbutzniks. This kibbutz was largely destroyed in the 1948/49 war.

(10A/second series) October 1945: Demonstration and rally for free, open immigration held in Tel Aviv. Hebrew banners read (in order of appearance): "Free immigration for Jews to their homeland", "Immediate release of Haganah prisoners", "We live because of your blood", "Now, immediate immigration"; two banners in close up "Down with the White Paper", "All the country for the settlement of the people", "Illegal immigrants must continue to come" (the Hebrew word for illegal is not a negative but a positive word).

(12D/second series) January 1946: New religious settlement established in Beit Shean Valley (south of Tiberias) by radical Jewish group Gush Emunin. Buildings being constructed, torah (sacred scrolls) being brought in, Moshe Shertok from Jewish Agency speaking.

(13B/second series) February 1946: With the revelation of the Holocaust in Europe, pressure was put on the new Labour Government to open Palestine to Jewish immigration. Eager to share the responsibility for the problem, the Attlee Government set up an Anglo-American Commission of Enquiry. This brief item shows members of the Commission arriving at the YMCA building in Jerusalem where they took evidence; amongst them is Richard Crossman. Ben Gurion and Abba Eban arrive to give evidence. In the interior shot, Rabbi Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem, presents evidence.

(14A/second series) Summer 1946: Immigrant ship Eliyahu Golomb arrives at Haifa to big reception. These immigrants, initially on SS Specia, had been turned back to Italy and only later allowed to continue. Amongst those meeting them is Golda Meir, acting head of the Jewish Agency. They are taken to Athlit.

(16A/second series) July/August 1946: Amongst several new settlements going up at this time is one at Keffar Kish. Film shows erection of prefabricated buildings, and opening ceremony. Hartzfield (Jewish National Fund) is present.
