Synopsis

Record (with intertitles) for regimental historical purposes of the blessing, presentation and trooping of the Silver Drums by the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel F S Montague Bates, in Hong Kong on 26 April 1926.

Battalion marches out of barracks to form up. Regimental band plays. Title indicates royal salute to the Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Cecil Clementi, KCMG, (not visible) before film of battalion drawn up on parade ground. General Officer Commanding Hong Kong, Major-General C C Luard, CB, CMG inspects battalion. Troop of the Old Drums across parade ground. Blessing of the Silver Drums by Captain the Reverend Stopford, Chaplain to the Forces. Sergeant Drummer French takes over the Silver Drums. Soldiers raise solar topee helmets to give three cheers to Mrs Luard. Troop of the Silver Drums. Battalion on parade, watched by British spectators, before marching past in column of route, bearing Lee Enfield .303-inch Mk III rifles with fixed bayonets. After the ceremony Major-General Luard and Mrs Luard, together with Mrs Bayliss, Lieutenant-Colonel Montague Bates, the Adjutant and Captain the Reverend Stopford pose for the camera behind the drummers and Silver Drums. Close-ups of Mrs Luard and Mrs Bayliss. Outdoor display of battalion silver, Officers' Mess silver and Sergeants' Mess silver.
