This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: MGH 700).

Synopsis

Home movie of HMS Capetown on the China Station, featuring scenes at Hong Kong and Nanking, 1936.

The film begins with a slow pan across the harbour of Hong Kong. There are shots of Chinese junks in the harbour, the crew training on the deck and good shots of HMS Capetown from the mast. There are scenes from HMS Capetown at sea at torpedo trials, test firings and retrievals. There are shots of lion cubs in a zoo, presumably Hong Kong, and of the 4 side-party girls for HMS Capetown from Hong Kong on board the ship. There is a sequence of a party of gentlemen going shooting ashore. There are shots of the officers in formal dress on board. HMS Capetown then sails to Shanghai and on to Nanking up the Yangtse and there are shots from the air over the ship at Nanking.
