Synopsis

INTEREST. European-led expedition on camels in African country.

A line of camels carrying wooden crates pulls to a halt in a sandy clearing. The black African drivers, naked from the waist up, wearing feathered head dresses and carrying spears, dismount, spread their prayer mats and bow low in prayer. They remount (124) and continue towards a clump of trees, where a tent is visible pitched by a large baobab tree (165). Africans walk through a gap in the trunk, form a line to show the tree's width, then return through the gap (224). Africans in the branches of the baobab tree shaking down the fruit, which is then gathered below (345). A European, carrying a rifle, mounts his camel and sets off from the camp with the Africans also on camel, and a few Africans on foot with hunting dogs (404ft).
