Production / Donor Details: The collection comprises two sets of films. The early films were made by Lady Kendall, wife of Sir Charles Kendall, in Allahabad, Benares, Naini Tal, Lucknow and England. The second set of films were made by Barbara Donaldson (nee Kendall) in Aligarh, Allahabad, New Delhi, Simla and Almora, Upper Garhwal and England. Raymond Veveysan Vernede (1905 -2003), donor of the Vernede Collection, joined the Indian Civil service in 1928. husband of Nancy Kendall. Mr. Vernede served as a District Officer in the United Provinces for 19 years, in the districts of Agra, Banares, Jhansi, Meerut, Allahabad, Unao, Garhwal and Gorakhpur. He retired in 1947. Mr Vernede wrote a number of books on British life in India, and has also recorded his memoirs for the Oral History Archive.
