Synopsis

Travelogue of Burma showing Buddhist sites in Rangoon and Mandalay and a look at Burmese life. Includes a teak sawmill and working elephants; child dancers and musicians; and Mandalay market.

Main title and credits (43). Silhouetted palm trees (56). Various busy street scenes in Rangoon showing traffic - ox carts, trams, rickshaws and the occasional car. No Europeans are seen (125). The export of teak is important to Burma; a covered floating dock on the Irrawaddy river (155); another view of river bank with people washing clothes and children bathing, large logs can be seen on the bank (172); piles of teak logs by a saw mill (176); interior of the saw mill (187); an elephant manouevres large logs (255). Various views of the Queen's Convent (Nandaw?) in Mandalay including MS carvings in teak (335). In the Great Royal Park of Mandalay two young girls perform a traditional Burmese dance accompanied by musicians. The dancing is intercut with the musicians playing traditional instruments (464). Views of pagoda and statues of Buddha in the Royal Park (535). Mandalay market scenes - stalls, porters, ox carts, people (646). Woman smoking pipe (657). Another woman smoking a very large cigar (680). A man carves statues (of varying size) of Buddha in marble and alabaster (732).
