Synopsis

Atlantic Coast with township fronting beach. Facade of Dutch colonial 18th Century town house of three stories being visited by mixed party of British colonials. Inscription tablet in Dutch on wall of house shown in close up and readable. The outside fortifications wall of a Slave fort with drawbridge entrance and cannons mounted on the top of the walls. Platform of rural railway station with close up of local women in their regional costume. Durbar gathering. Processions of local chiefs under their umbrellas. Group carrying and playing the "Talking Drums" of the Ashanti. The Ashantihene (or High Chief) is carried in his litter. Tribal emblems and symbols being paraded. Tribesman wearing and displaying his apron carrying ceremonial daggers and symbols of authority.

Production / Donor Details: Donor's grandfather, Sir Francis Walter F Jackson was Chief Commissioner, Gold Coast (Ghana) 1934-36.
