Synopsis

TRAVELOGUE. Scenes in Fiji.

British Screen Classics logo (10). Pan of shoreline, bay and steep hill (14-36). Three sailing outriggers in a bay; Fijians set sail (41-52). MCU travelling shot over prow and outrigger cutting through sea (58-77). Fijians use long poles to punt boats to shore (87). Communal housebuilding: a mass of people (50+) clear ground (98-104); sawing wood and carrying off logs at the beach (108-111); logs being carried up a steep hill (121); plaiting walls (138); stitching palm fronds together for the roof; completed ones are collected and taken to the house (212); placing the completed fronds onto the roof (225); fixing a carved piece of wood to the eaves of the roof (229). Women making a patterned textile; they hold it up for the camera (232-258). MCU woman with bare breasts (264). Fijian men, dressed in palm fronds, set sail with a large net rolled up on the boat (280). MCU woman as before (288). Two boats at sea (299). Men in the water spread out the net into a long line. The catch of fish is hauled aboard one of the boats (312). The catch is poured from the net on land (322). MS caught fish held up for the camera (331). Small children playing in the sea (335-342).
