Synopsis

Prince of Wales' tour of India in 1921-1922, including the opening of the Delhi Durbar (16/2/1922) and a visit to Calcutta December 1921.

"Patna. The President of the Council asks permission of HRH to open the Durbar".

"The Prince declares the Durbar open".

"Members of the reception committee being presented . VIPs on dais.

"HRH attends the garden party at Hardington Park". VIPs pass through gate.

"It will be noticed that HRH is wearing the `Hars' or the `Indian Garland of Welcome'".

"A primitive water works". Water wheel pulled by oxen.

"HRH, The Prince of Wales arrives at Howrah Station, Calcutta". The train pulls in. Official greetings. The Prince inspects the troops. Ascends carriages and departs.

"In Dalhouise Square the Corporation of Calcutta present an address". The Prince replies. Procession and speeches.

"Calcutta". Scenes on arrival at Government House. Inspection of troops. "In the street the Prince is vociferously cheered by thousands of schoolchildren". Procession and flag-waving crowds.

"Calcutta's Christmas race meeting ". The Prince strolls in paddock before the race for the Prince of Wales Cup. "The Parade". Horses on racetrack. The Prince ein VIP enclosure. Start of the race, continuing and finish. Winning horse (not named) led into enclosure.

"Calcutts's illuminations". Shown briefly. "A spectacular Indian pageant and entertainment at the maidan where the Prince is warmly received".procession The Prince shakes the hand of the VIps (mostly Indian). Young women dance.

The opening ceremony of the memorial to Queen Victoria is shown briefly.

"Garden party at Government House". Crowded scenes.

"Inspection of the Calcutta Fire Brigade".
