Synopsis

DOCUMENTARY.

Rl.1 Opening shots of the mail plane calling at Brunette Downs, Northern Territory, Australia. Aerial shots of the sea, fields and river and the plane in flight "The aeroplane has won for man the freedom of the air" (527). Shots of an aircraft factory - a wing is tested for drag and lift, draughtsmen at work, assembly shops, drawings the hanger doors open and the plane is brought out (528-722). At the Solent of Southampton, the flying boat waits for the letter which it will carry across the world, shots of people posting letters (740-762). Passengers board the flying boat and the engine is started (886 ft).

Rl.2 The flying boat taxis across the water. Shots of the controls, the pilots, the view and passengers. The flying proceeds to Athens where it refuels. Long shot of the Acropolis (172-261). Palace of Ras juxtoposed with shots of the plane. Desert Nomads on horses come to look at the plane (416-472). The planes route to the Persian Gulf is shown on a relief map. Shots of minarets and market streets. In the harbour, Arabs await the arrival of the flying boat (697). On arrival, the plane is refuelled and the crew take refreshments. Close-up of Arabs. The plane takes off. Shots of the controls, passengers and the plane in flight (1872 ft).

RL.3 Aerial shots of Karachi. The plane is signalled in. A camel pulls the unloading trolley to the plane. Shots of streets and Indian riding on elephant. A relief map shows the route of the plane across India and the River Ganges. Shots of the temples of Bangkok alternated with shots of the plane (428). Shots of the Temples at Angkor (537). Route of the plane shown on relief map to Singapore. Shots of the city, the harbour, streets, people, rice fields and junk boats in the harbour (2582 ft).
