Synopsis

ANIMATION. Stop-frame puppet animation. Snap the Gingerbread Man goes hunting in Africa and is chased by a lion.

"Snap the Gingerbread Man in `WILDEST AFRICA'. Produced by Kinex Studios Hollywood" (3). Snap the Gingerbread Man and his pet dog are out hunting in the African jungle. The dog sniffs out a monkey from a clump of grasses. The monkey rides on the dog's back, then runs off. Snap and his dog walk on until they come to a coconut tree. The monkey throws down a coconut and knocks out the dog. He throws another and hits Snap, who loads up his gun and is preparing to fire when a lion comes round the corner. The dog gets up and runs off, Snap shoots and falls backwards onto the lion. The lion is unable to shake off Snap, and runs away carrying Snap on its back. The dog hides inside a hollow log. The lion runs into the log, dislodging Snap, then round and round before Snap catches hold of its tail while in the log. The dog stops up one end with a rock, Snap the other, and they shake hands in front of the rocking log (98ft/16mm).

Note: Kinex studios are not mentioned in any works on film animation, but are recorded in the Film Daily Year Book for 1928 to 1931. They produced three known series: SNAP THE GINGERBREAD MAN, CHIP THE WOODEN MAN and DAFFY DOINGS IN DOODLEBUGVILLE. For further information, including NFTVA holdings, see Kinex file. The main title is preceded a logo for Cine Kodagraph, presumably the distributors.
