Synopsis

(Part 1) Sir Rhoderick is met at Luqa Airport by Admiral Mountbatten (C-in-C Med) and inspects RAF Guard of Honour. General Lawton Collins US Army (US delegate to Standing Group), Admirals Nomy and Lemonnier (French Navy), Lieutenant-General Schuyler US Army (Chief of Staff to General Gruenther), Vice-Admiral Dick (Liaison Officer to Standing Group) and Air Chief Marshal Dickson also arrive, are greeted and/or inspect Guard. Action Speed Tactical Teacher and general surroundings, Manoel Island: First Sea Lord arrives, meets Commander Townsend and staff, GOC Malta, Admiral Fife USN and General Holland (US Army); C-in-C Med arrives; First Sea Lord, C-in-C Med and a Senior Officer leave in C-in-C's barge. Senior officers arrive at HAFMED for presentation and briefing: Air Marshal Reynolds, Air Chief Marshal Dickson, Admiral Nomy, Admiral Lemonnier, Admiral Mountbatten, General Collins, First Sea Lord, Admiral Fife. First Sea Lord arrives at Lascaris for Flag Officer's meeting.

(Part 2) First Sea Lord arrives on board HMS Glory, ascends in lift with Vice-Admiral Davis (FO Second-in-Command Med) and the Captain to take salute and inspect RM Guard of Honour; Ship's Company marches past; First Sea Lord talks to old shipmates. Ships laying Grand Harbour. First Sea Lord arrives on board HMS Daring and is met by CO, Captain P D Gick; First Sea Lord meets officers with Vice-Admiral Davis, and inspects Divisions with Captain Gick; leaving ship. Daring and Chevron in Grand Harbour.

(Part 3) First Sea Lord is piped aboard HMS Glasgow with Admiral Mountbatten. Fleet on exercises. Aircraft attack splash target towed by Glasgow. HMS St Kitts and HMS Glasgow prepare for jackstay transfer of First Sea Lord and C-in-C Med. Lieutenant Commander De Pass (Flag Lieutenant to the C-in-C) is transferred by jackstay to St Kitts. Guns of HMS Glasgow fire 16-gun salute to First Sea Lord. Men of St Kitts work in rough weather at sea. C-in-C Med and First Sea Lord transferred by jackstay to St Kitts. First Sea Lord meets Dockyard officials and chats to them in their Club bar (including Colonel Garrad, Superintending Dockyard Police, and President of Dockyard Club). First Sea Lord leaves dockyard with Rear-Admiral Salter (FO Malta). First Sea Lord visits HMS St Angelo: arrives at jetty in C-in-C's barge to be greeted by Captain Mainwaring; addressing Divisions and Maltese Ratings.

(Part 4) First Sea Lord visits HMS Wrangler: he is met by Captain Parry on arrival, is introduced to Commander North-Lewis (CO HMS Roebuck), Commander Evans (CO Whirlwind) and senior officers of Wrangler, inspects Communications Division of Wrangler and (with Flag Officer Flotillas) ratings of HMS Roebuck (Whirlwind in background); First Sea Lord and FO Flotillas leave; Wrangler in Sliema with Roebuck in background. Vice-Admiral Davis is rowed ashore after hauling down his flag on HMS Gambia; whaler comes alongside Grand Harbour jetty with Vice-Admiral at the tiller; onshore he is welcomed by Admiral Mountbatten and inspects RM Guard of Honour. Mountbatten calls on Vice-Admiral J P R Reid, the new Flag Officer, Second-in-Command Mediterranean. C-in-C Med is piped on board HMS Gambia and welcomed by Vice-Admiral Reid and Captain P W Gretton; he inspects Guard. The Governor General Sir Gerald Creasy calls on Vice-Admiral Reid on board Gambia: he takes the salute and inspects the Guard; Gambia fires a 17 gun salute in the Governor's honour.
