Synopsis

Escort for HM Queen Elizabeth II, May 1954, in final stages of Commonwealth Tour: Mediterranean.

(Part 1) From HMS Britannia, 2nd May. (Part 2) From HMS Eagle, 2nd May. (Part 3) From HMS Glasgow, 2nd May. (Parts 4 and 5) Landing at Malta, 3rd May. Royal Barge comes alongside jetty; Queen and Duke of Edinburgh step ashore and meet the Governor, Sir Gerald Creasy and Lady Creasy. Queen and Duke take salute from the Maltese Royal Guard who are then inspected by the Queen. Among those presented to the Queen are His Honour Mr Trafford Smith (Lieutenant Governor), Air Marshal B V Reynolds, Rear-Admiral J S C Salter, Major General B Daunt, His Honour Dr L A Camilleri, the Honourable Dr T Caruana, Mr Anthony Camilleri and Mr H F Grech. (Parts 6 and 7) Combined Services Parade, 4th May. HM Queen and Duke of Edinburgh arrive on parade ground and inspect Guard and Parade; marchpast and crowd scenes (including CUs of children waving flags). More shots of arrival and inspection. Parade Commander reports parade to HM Queen. Marchpast by Royal Navy, WRNS, Army, RAAF and RAF; royal salute from parade. (Part 8) HMS Glasgow, 5th May. HM Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Admiral Mountbatten (C-in-C Med) and Lady Pamela Mountbatten arrive on the Quarterdeck of HMS Glasgow; they are piped aboard and take the salute. Meeting with Captain B Bryant (CO, Glasgow) and other senior officers. Queen inspects Guard of Honour, and talks to Senior Chiefs and Petty Officers. (Part 9) HMS Eagle, 5th May. Royal Barge approaches; Royal Standard flies onboard Eagle. Queen arrives on Flight Deck and inspects Royal Guard; ship's company marches past. Queen proceeds up Flight Deck for introduction to selected ratings. Ship's company cheers Queen as she leaves ship. (Part 10) HMS Eagle, 5th May. Royal Barge approaches; Queen in Flight Deck and inspecting Guard. Heads of Departments are introduced to Queen; she ascends dais for marchpast of ship's company which then takes place. Queen proceeds forward to meet selected ratings. Duke of Edinburgh meets officers and ratings who have served in his ships. Eagle's company cheers HM Queen as she leaves.
