Synopsis

HMS Protector, guardship to the Falkland Islands Dependencies, assists the survey ship RRS Shackleton after damage by ice in the waters off South Georgia.

LS of one of Protector's Whirlwind helicopters ferrying stores and diving equipment to the Shackleton. Aerial view of the Shackleton underway with CUs of the poop deck, port bow and bridge - the Protector (A.146) follows astern of the Shackleton. Cut to HA.CU of Shackleton's boat alongside Protector loading supplies - her two-man crew wave as they return to their ship, now obscured by a dense mist. CU of a Whirlwind as it runs up - an asbestos-suited Rescue Firefighter stands by. a helicopter lifts off and hovers before picking up a cargo net the flightdeck crew have loaded with stores and diving equipment. Shackleton shelters in the lee of an iceberg in the mist. A South Georgia Co whaler, Southern Lily, stands by to assist - the small vessel rolls noticeably in the swell. Protector's two helicopters fly past. LSs of the whaler and its factory ship Southern Harvester. Aerial views of the factory ship show a whale carcass being flensed on the foredeck
