SERVICE BROADCASTING IN ADEN

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ADM 1957).

Synopsis

A information piece on the work of AFBA, the Aden Forces Broadcasting Authority, responsible for the forces' radio entertainment. A short sequence in the middle of the reel shows an Army street patrol.

(i) An initial sequence shows the general working of the AFBA organisation from initial programming to the reception of broadcast music in a serviceman's apartment. (ii) The mid-section (320 - 405 ft) shows an Army street patrol in Aden. The men carry FN rifles, but a corporal carries a Sterling SMG and a Schermuly pistol. All have gas masks pulled up over their heads, ready for instant use. A soldier surveys the roof tops, his left hand ready on the cocking handle of his rifle. There is then a short beach scene with a toddler at play and adults relaxing in deckchairs. (iii) The AFBA sequence is repeated.
