ASCENSION ISLAND SUPPLY BASE

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ADM 4824).

Synopsis

Supply base scenes

The reel shows: arrival at Ascension Island by Nimrod, the setting up of and scenes in tented and temporary accommodation, troops cleaning weapons, the surrounding landscape, a doctor examining someone's ear, Victor tanker aircraft arriving (extensive shots), Sea King helicopters and fork lift trucks manoeuvring supplies and general airfield activity.

Notes

Summary: footage was received with no documentation and little identification. Film can was originally marked "Canary Islands". Information is partly based on the recollections of the cameraman, Alan Fowler, in 1993, and otherwise on a cursory viewing of the reel. (See note to ADM 4821).

Remarks: the camera work is poor - almost constant aimless panning and zooming means very few well composed shots.
