ASCENSION ISLAND SUPPLY BASE

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ADM 4825).

Synopsis

Supply base scenes.

Continuing from the previous film (ADM 4824), this reel shows: extensive footage of rifle firing practice (by the SAS, apparently), assembling a mobile stove and cooking activities, men resting on the beach with shipping in the background, a sign saying "5557 MASH Victor Battle Fleet", a Victor tanker aircraft crew disembarking and being greeted, extensive footage of supply moving activities on the airfield, a number of Victor aircraft taking off.

Notes

Summary: footage was received with no documentation and little identification. Film can was originally marked "Canary Islands". Information is partly based on the recollections of the cameraman, Alan Fowler, in 1993, and otherwise on a cursory viewing of the reel. (See note to ADM 4821).

Remarks: the camera work is poor - almost constant aimless panning and zooming means very few well composed shots.
