NAVAL SALUTES (RUSHES 2)

Synopsis

I. Naval saluting: two ratings salute a Lieutenant who they encounter walking along a street (Portland ?); squad of ratings (belts, gaiters, white caps) make eyes left as they pass Lieutenant and Petty Officer; ratings in street look into funeral director's window to avoid saluting an approaching officer; rating encumbered with two suitcases salutes passing officer. Various similar sequences set in the public street and at a Naval shore establishment. Equivalent of opening shot, set in Malta - ratings in No 6 dress, and officer in whites, exchange salutes.

II. Various shots of Royal Marines band and guard (in khaki drill) on deck of aircraft carrier, Grand Harbour, Malta. Colours are hoisted on ensign, staff band strikes up anthem and members of the guard present arms. Intercut scenes show Captain Lister and Commander Keymer in tropical rig, talking on quarterdeck of HMS Newcastle, and HA.MS aft to RM Guard and Band, officers and ratings fell in on quarterdeck for entering harbour (see ADM 705).

III. MS off starboard bow of HMS Loch Eck moored in Sliema Creek, Malta. Camera pans left to show 4 more Loch Class Frigates and 3 destroyers at moorings.

IV. LA.MS of harbour tower as saluting battery fires.

V. Grand Harbour, Malta: MCUs as HMS Newcastle passes right to left across frame past Castille signal station - awning rigged over quarterdeck (note absence of 'X' turret). Resolve Class harbour tug close astern. MLS off port bow as Newcastle enters Grand Harbour.

VI. MLS and MS of Dido Class light cruiser (HMS Euryalus?) firing a salute as she passes through breakwater into Grand Harbour.
