DUTIES OF THE HELMSMAN (RUSHES 4)

Synopsis

I. Bridge of a Daring Class destroyer at sea: Captain and Lieutenant, Officer of the Watch, on the bridge. OOW issues orders to bring the ship past the landing craft HMS Striker (L.3516) which is on a reciprocal course. OOW inspects compass and reports bearing via telephone. CU of magnetic compass.

II. Ratings on mess deck - reading, drinking mugs of tea, etc.

III. Malta. HA.MS from cameraship to the focsle of HMS Dainty (D.108) as she bears away - crewmen cast off and remove side fenders. Dainty moves ahead, but only the starboard forebody has come into frame by the end of the sequence.

IV. Sequence showing HMS Daring (D.05) underway in a moderate sea, and entering Grand Harbour, Malta.

V. Miscellaneous shots onboard a Daring Class destroyer. MS forward from a position before semi-automatic 40mm mounting abaft the after funnel, to twin 40mm AA abreast CT on portside. Stern wash. Ratings fall in on the quarter deck for entry into port. HA.MS aft down the portside as men run to enter deckhouse by after DCT. Petty officer with thirteen ratings fell in by TT (torpedo tubes) - he calls the roll and sends men in pairs aft at the double.
