36TH DIVISION CAPTURE MAHLAINGGON IN NORTHERN BURMA

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: FUB 90).

Synopsis

As 36th Division approaches Mongmit, in northern Burma, troops of 9th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment advance on the village of Mahlainggon, on the Shweli river.

Two British soldiers walk through what looks to be a mortar battery position. British foot patrol along a dusty track. Signallers spool out telephone cable. More troops moving through thick vegetation. Major Hunt, a company commander in the Royal Sussex, looking out with binoculars. Alternative angle with the Shweli river in background. Two men, Corporal Hiscocks and Lieutenant Hearn of the Royal Sussex, throw smoking hand grenades, apparently at a Japanese bunker.

Notes

The viewing copy for this film includes FUB 86-91. The divisions between FUB 86, FUB 87 and FUB 88 are reasonably clear, but FUB 89-91 have a significant degree of subject overlap and as such it is harder to be certain where one item ends and another begins.

The cameraman's dopesheet for this piece describes a shot of rifle grenades being used to clear a bunker, but this does not appear.
