the GEN NO 15

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: GEN 15).

Synopsis

I. "Your RAF reporter..." Reporter introduces a. Italian patriots parade in St. Mark's Square, Venice, to honour their liberators. Allied troops sightsee. Commentary emphasises value of patriots' contribution to North Italy campaign. b. Demonstrations of new fire-bomb "for frying Japs" detonated by two hand-grenades, to be operated by the pilot. c. English airmen meet friendly Greek girls (in national costume).

II. "S.E.A.C." Life at an Indian Ocean air-sea rescue station (Ceylon). Film shows leisure activities, aircraft maintenance, RAF rescue launches, and a sequence in which a dinghy (spotted by an aerial patrol) is picked up by a launch.

III. "Victory in Europe." Idyllic English country scenes are accompanied by Churchill's words "...the German War is therefore at an end." Hitler's pledge "Give me five years, and you will not recognise Germany again" is followed by film of bombed German towns, railway stations and AA guns. A list of English bombers which did not return is seen painted on a German propeller. As Allied liberators enter Dutch towns, inhabitants boo Nazi collaborators. Lancasters drop supplies to hungry Dutch peasants, and return with English POWs, who are seen having their first cup of tea in England. VE Day celebrations in London.
