Synopsis

I. "The Lorraine Squadron." 342 Squadron prepare their Boston aircraft and carry out a raid on a power station near Paris. (Personnel are French volunteers).

II. "News Digest." a. King and Queen visit Air Chief Marshal Harris at Bomber Command. b. The Avro York transport plane. c. Launching of the new USS Wasp (original carrier lost at Guadalcanal). d. The 'Independent Air Force' - officers assist groundcrew prepare Mosquitos, attend briefing and take-off for an allegedly self-chosen target.

III. "American Story." American glider training at base in Africa: Hadrians and Dakotas. USAF General Arnold watches.

IV. "In Passing." a. Italian Savoia-Marchetti 'speeds' to an allied air base; units of the late Regia Aeronautica now fight against their former colleagues. b. RAF airmen, giving food to Italian children, display the same humanity as was shown "in bombing occupied territory."

V. "Names in the News." a. Mountbatten meets RAF C-in-C, SEAC, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Peirse. b. Tedder leaves Africa (guard of honour) to join second Front staff (London, conference with Eisenhower, Montgomery).

VI. "It was necessary." Bombing of Monte Cassino Monastery.

VII. "Letter to Bert." 'Cockney' voice describes/film shows leisure activities in North Africa. Tommy Trinder entertains.

VIII. "Pacific Front." Air-sea war (Zeroes) and combined operations in the "Battle of a thousand islands."
