INDIAN NEWS PARADE NO 105 (16/3/1945)

Synopsis

I. "RECRUITING IN THE ASSAM JUNGLES" Scenes of wild elephants being captured and tamed by men in the Assam jungle, using other tame elephants and a single piece of rope.

II. "HOLKAR WINS RANJI SEMI-FINAL BY 10 WICKETS". Semi-final cricket match between Madras and Holkar, competing for the Ranji Trophy, is held at Chepauk cricket ground at Madras. Among the cricketers were the fifty-year old veteran C K Naidu, Johnstone, Robinson, Sarwate, Rangachary and England's Dennis Compton.

III. "AN R.A.F. OCCASION" The Governor of Punjab and Air Commodore Vincent view RAF trainees at Lahore keeping fit in PT displays, including a tug of war.

IV. "THE NEWS IN BRIEF" Mr Nagindas Master, Mayor of Bombay, gives away prizes at the Fruit and Flower Show at Bombay in view of hundreds of bouquets of flowers. Commentary states, " to let India know what India can do....that's the object of a show like this". Lady Hope cuts the tape and visitors enter the show. A scene from the Bhagavad Gita is produced in flowers.

Sir John Colville tells an audience in Poona how Fazal Rahimtoola, the Sheriff of Bombay, had donated a ward for the use of British troops.

The All India Manufacturer's Conference convenes including Doctor Khare, Sir Ardeshir Dalal of Tata Steel and Sir M Visweswariah, the President who "said that every nation had a living capital, and that was its manpower. That makes India three or four times richer than the rest of the Empire put together."

Jimmy Nattu, an orphan and mascot in the RAF Squadron in Burma is seen drawing his rations and receiving his inoculation along with the other members of the squadron, one of whom, a Group Captain, he calls Uncle George.

V. "RETAKING BURMA" Scenes of the war machinery and men that are "getting back Burma". A Japanese gaol (jail),"centre of the terror that swept over Burma" and a bunker are featured. Commentary notes the metaphorical "prison that the Japs tried to make of the whole of the eastern world".
