Synopsis

I. INDIAN NAVY REGATTA - Annual Regatta recently held in Karachi to commemorate the anniversary of the commissioning of HMIS 'Bahadur'.

I. INDIAN NAVY REGATTA - At Karachi an annual regatta held to commemorate the anniversary of the commissioning of his Majesty's ship 'Bahadur' as a training establishment. Besides the Governor Sind and Lady Dow, and a large number of naval, military and civilian officials, there was also present General Sir Claude Auchinleck. Eight events were on the programme, all of which were very closely contested. At the close of the events, the God of the Seas arrived on the scene to give his benediction. General Auchinleck is garlanded by Neptune.

II. FILM MAGNATE WEDS IN BOMBAY - Pictures of a most spectacular and attractive wedding in Bombay on the occasion of the marriage of Mr Keki Modi, well-known exhibitor and film producer in India, to Miss Ellen Layer of Calcutta.

II. FILM MAGNATE WEDS IN BOMBAY - Bombay witnessed a most spectacular and attractive wedding on the occasion of the marriage of Mr Keki Modi to Miss Ellen Lawyer, when over 3000 guests attended. The bridegroom, well-known in the Indian film world, controls the largest chain of theatres in India. Here is the bride garlanded with beautiful flowers. The bridegroom arrives in procession to mount the dais which is covered abundantly with flowers. The ceremony was performed in the traditional Parsi manner with Mr Modi's brother, Sohrab Modi, one of film lands best loved directors and actors, fanning the traditional Indian weather. The ceremony is now performed and there is more garlanding, and the happy bride and bridegroom greet their numerous friends.

III. SREEJUT SAVARKAR'S SIXTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY - showing a mammoth crowd in Bombay witnessing the presentation of an address and a purse to Mr Savarkar, the Hindu Mahasabha leader, on the occasion of his sixty-first birthday.

III. SREEJUT SAVARKAR'S SIXTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY - Another celebration - though of a different kind - was on the occasion of the sixty-first birthday of Vir Savarkar, the Hindu Mahasabha leader. A mammoth crowd in Bombay witnessed the presentation of an address and a purse of Rs.55,000. Here is a section of that huge gathering which took place at the Gwalior Tank Maidan. Dr Paranjapye presided, and among others who spoke was Mr K F Nariman. In addition to what he received in Bombay, Mr Savarkar received a purse of Rs.86,000 in Poona. Mr Savarkar, in a speech lasting over an hour, surveyed the political and communal problem in the country.

IV. BOMBAY-NAGPUR MAIL DISASTER - Movietone presents pictures of one of the most tragic and disastrous railway accidents at Borgaon, Akola District, GP.

IV. BOMBAY - NAGPUR MAIL DISASTER - Movietone presents these tragic pictures of a disastrous railway accident at Borgaon, about nine miles from Akola, in the Central provinces. The Bombay-Nagpur mail crashed into a goods train whilst travelling at high speed. The engine and tender along with dining car, a third class and an intermediate class compartment were badly smashed. This accident is one of the most serious accidents of its kind on record, and it is estimated that the dead reached 85 in number whilst over 140 were injured. Immediate relief was rendered the victims and the seriously injured rushed to the General at Akola. The less serious cases received first aid on the spot. The public of the surrounding area responded magnificently to the emergency, whilst British troops also travelling by the same train rendered great service.
