Synopsis

I. "CHINESE CELEBRATE SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF RESISTANCE TO JAPAN" Chinese children lead the procession in Calcutta, marking resistance to Japan. Commentary notes that "China had a revolution to give these children a better life. Murderously jealous, the Japs gave them war". New-found freedom of Chinese women "has come to stay" and China's dragon has enough fight "to clear its enemies out of the way of China's march to a new world".

II. "390,000 RUPEES WON IN FIRST PRIZE BOND DRAW" Sir Harilal Jekisundas Kania (a federal Court judge) gives away "fortune" in bond draw, attended by the Secretary and his Committee. Seven young people sit in stage with barrels as discs are drawn unit by unit from the seven barrels.

III. "MADRAS SAPPERS & MINERS' MAGNIFICENT CONTRIBUTION TO THE ADVANCE IN ITALY". Madras Sappers and Miners contribute to repairing bridges destroyed by the Nazis during "steady relentless advance that Kesselring can't fight back". Attempts to move a jeep across the Volturno river, north of Naples and scenes of a ropeway, built to carry the wounded across the river.

IV. "HIS HOLINESS THE POPE BLESSES MEN OF THE EIGHT ARMY IN ROME" Crowds gather outside the Consistorial Hall in Rome as His Holiness the Pope, "the Vicar of the Prince of Peace" meets Indian and Allied troops of the Eighth Army. The Pope receives applause as he enters and "calls his children around him for a blessing". Indian soldiers watch Pope carried aloft in his white and gold sedan. Swiss soldiers in helmets are present. Indian Catholics receive Pope's benediction, "the crowning moment of their victory in Italy".
