Synopsis

I. "SANTINIKETAN - THE ABODE OF PEACE" "Famous people" attend the 43rd anniversary of the Ashram, founded by the father of the great poet Tagore". A plaque in Chinese "tells how the place has become world-famous". Scenes of Leonard Elmhirst of the progressive Dartington Hall in England, being greeted with the "tilak". Tagore's chair and writing table at the house are shown.

II. "PUNJAB LOSES A STATESMAN....SIR CHHOTU RAM" Funeral of Punjabi statesman Sir Chhotu Ram, founder of the Punjab Unionist Party. Among those attending are Sir Bertrand Glancy, Governor of the Punjab and Malik Khizar Hyat Khan, Punjab Premier. Commentary notes that Ram, "a great lawyer and statesman, fought for the people whom, he frequently said, would be the future rulers of the land".

III. "LATEST WAR PICTURES FROM THE ADRIATIC SECTOR" Film depicting scenes of the Allied liberation of "Route 9", crossing from Rimini to Bologna, at the German-held town of Faenza. Allied transport advances along road, "timing their spurts along Route Nine between salvoes". Scenes of destroyed Allied vehicles and a Nazi Panther as troops advance on city. "Tanks advance with stretcher-bearers in what commentary describes as "not an easy fight".

IV. "ON THE ROAD TO MANDALAY" Scenes of road construction through Burma Jungle, although commentary notes that it is "not quite the road that Kipling wrote about". Shells clear path through Burmese jungle containing a dead Japanese soldier and his "broken fan" and "useless sword". A wounded Allied soldier is treated "in the middle of the jungle" as camera shows images of the "grim hard war", "to help make it real" for viewers. Images of recovering soldiers are interspersed with those of the dead.
