EXECUTION OF WAR CRIMINAL UYENO MASAKARU AT RANGOON JAIL

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 638).

Synopsis

Convicted Japanese war criminal Captain Uyeno Masakaru is executed at Rangoon Central Jail.

Masakaru is led out from his cell towards the gallows. He is led up to the gallows and stumbles on one of the steps. After the hanging, a Japanese bearer party bow towards the shrouded body before putting it into a coffin. The coffin is carried away; an Indian soldier (a Gurkha?) follows behind.

Notes

The cameraman notes on his dopesheet that Masakaru had been convicted of the torture and killing of one British and two American airmen between March and July 1944. Rangoon Jail had housed a number of captured Allied airmen during the war, and was liberated in May 1945.
