Synopsis

As 17th Indian Division advances south through Burma along the Rangoon road from Meiktila, armoured and motor vehicles ford the Baingda river near Milestone 84, and Indian Engineers attempt to replace a wrecked bridge.

A sign at the roadside reads 'District Boundary Toungoo - Rangoon' and beneath is marked 'M45F4 129 M.I.F' (?). Tank tracks, the wheels of motor vehicles and marching feet pass the sign. Notes

These operations form part of IV Corps' southward drive along the road to Rangoon from Meiktila. The Baingda river is a tributary of the Sittang.

The dopesheet for this film names no specific units. However by the time IV Corps had reached Milestone 84 17th Indian Division had passed through 5th Indian Division and remained the forward division until the link-up with 26th Indian Division in May 1945.

A Sherman tank named Jind is also seen in action at Yewe near Meiktila, in JFU 169. IV Corps operations on the Rangoon road were extensively covered by British Army cameraman and their footage held under the 'JFU' film series.
