Synopsis

Aerial views of an amphibious landing by 25th Indian Division at Ru-Ywa in the coastal Arakan region of Burma.

Aerial views of landing craft, warship and terrain during a landing by 53rd Brigade at Ru-Ywa. Includes views of the Royal Indian Navy sloop HMIS Narbada firing on Japanese positions, views of the local terrain, various classes of landing craft, a civilian steamer marked as a hospital ship, landing craft making their way up a chaung (river or watercourse) and of men disembarking.

Notes

Camera aircraft is a Stinson Sentinel, so possibly of C Flight, 656 Air Observation Post Squadron RAF. This Flight provided artillery observation to XV Corps.

This landing was conducted by 53rd Indian Brigade of 25th Indian Division, XV Corps. The purpose of this landing was to enable two brigades to move north and trap a Japanese force being held near Tamandu.

Landings at Ru-Ywa were also covered by Sub-Lieutenant Worth of the India Public Relations Film Unit, and by British Army cameramen. See related items.
