Synopsis

A film biography of Lord Louis Mountbatten, covering his life from 1900 to 1963.

The film, almost exclusively using archive material, follows Mountbatten's birth and family background, his cadetship with the navy, his marriage to Edwina Ashley, his inter-war achievements with the navy, his command of HMS Kelly, of Combined Operations and of South-East Asia command during the war, his term as Viceroy of India overseeing independence and partition and later as Governor General dealing with their consequences, his return to the navy in Malta and then as First Sea Lord and finally his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff.
