They throw themselves flat on the ground and fire their rifles (apparently firing dry with no ammunition). Crouching photographer. The three brothers descend on a local fruit seller on camp and snatch up bunches of bananas that they wolf down. The three brothers, each washing in a tin bath; they turn and grin at the camera. One brother runs to the other two with a much-prized letter from home. Reading the letter.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Peirse (Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief) arrives by car with Air Vice Marshal Williams (Air Officer Commanding Bengal). Peirse salutes the RAF Regiment guard of honour. Inspecting the guard. On saluting base for the march past, led by the pipe band of the Bengal Artillery.

Notes

Part 1; the dopesheet does not identify the brothers' unit, but gives it as 'a west Country Regt', which, given their hometown, would suggest the Dorsetshire Regiment. It adds 'But the day is coming when they will be parted for the first time in their lives. Authority has decreed that they must not go into action as a trio. In fairness to their mother there must be no risk of their becoming casualties together'. Upsettingly, given the cheerfulness of this film story, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists a Private Lawrence Charles Hobby, of 2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment, as having been killed on 4 June 1944 and now buried at Kohima War Cemetery. It is not possible to be certain that this refers to the same Lawrence Hobby seen in this film, but the coincidence of name, rank and regiment, and the compatibility of the date of death is noted. His date of death would suggest he was killed during a 2nd Dorsets' attack on 'Pimple' during the Battle of Kohima.

Series note: The MWY series of films is believed to be part of a ‘pool’ of film received by the Government of India from various sources, including South East Asia Command, the Indian Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate, the Ministry of Information, and from Allied governments. This footage would have been considered for editing and release through the Indian Newsreel Parade; see INR series.
