Synopsis

Travelogue. Commander Glen Kidston's trip to Africa, including a safari and a visit to a plantation.

No titles. LS of docks and large cranes (3). MCU of man reading `Photography for the Amateur' and smiling at the camera (17). A group of Europeans in the African bush, stand and talk. Four cars drive through the rough terrain, one with registration `B9189'. A pipe-smoking European talks to a group of natives (113). Plantation scenes: native boys gather tall shoots, which have been cut, and put them into bundles. Under cover, the shoots are put on a conveyor belt. HAS shot of boys straightening the shoots on the conveyor, which then go into a crushing/shredding machine (218). Aerial shot of a wide river with gently sloping banks (220). MCU of a couple talking (on board the plane?) (236). Aerial shot of large fields, sparse woodland, and a few buildings (383). On the ground, two men stand in front of the plane. Several people push the plane, `Miss Africa', into a hangar (327). A group of natives gather round a portable gramophone on the grass, their faces impassive (335). Native women and children under a tree, one suckles a baby (367). CU of a dead elephant. A European leans against it and another holds up its ear. A line of natives looks on. Pan over the elephant's body. A native(?) sharpens a knife and begins to cut its foot. Natives watch. The elephant cut open (352). Five men sit on the elephant's body. Three natives sit on the elephant and jump off (584ft).
