BRITISH MOVIETONE NEWS ISSUE 782A (1 JUNE 1944)

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: NMV 782 A).

Synopsis

I. "Whitsun 1944." Holiday scenes at Ascot races and Lord's Cricket Ground where Australian airmen are playing an English team. The match is watched by Australian Premier Curtin and High Commissioner Bruce as well as by the Maharajah of Kashmir and Sir Pelham Warner, President of MCC.

II. "RAF all-out blitz." A map indicates some of the military and industrial targets in France which are being attacked by the RAF. Film shows Mosquitos taking off and bombs falling on coastal defences during a daylight raid. Commentary is at pains to justify bombing of France.

III. "The link-up in Italy." British troops from the Anzio Front and Americans of the Fifth Army link-up somewhere in Italy. Paul Wyant of Movietone is present to film the scene. General Clark arrives later. Item ends with a view of captured German soldiers in a truck.
