Synopsis

I. "Aktuelles in Kuerze." a. Lord Pakenham gives press conference in Berlin (pledge of non-abandonment); Lindley Fraser of BBC also speaks. b. Queen Wilhelmina of Holland, after illness, resumes duties: congratulations from crowd, and Regent Princess Juliana. c. 24-hour general strike in Bavaria, protesting over rations-cutback (including film of mass rally in Munich). d. Burma becomes independent Republic: Sir Stafford Cripps makes official handover in London.

II. "The Marshall Plan." Truman (in State of Union message) and Marshall himself (in evidence to Senate foreign affairs committee) both tell Congress of the plan's vital importance.

III. "Bilder aus aller Welt." a. Natural gas in Canada (drilling and pipelaying machinery). b. Baby llama in Vienna. c. Basketball-on-ice in New Jersey. d. Production of the 20,000th Volkswagen since the war's end.

IV. New York paralysed after a 16-hour snow storm: traffic snowed up, snow ploughs at work, etc.

V. "Calorie detectives." Government officials collecting samples (from milkman, shop and restaurant) for laboratory analysis of content to check against ration standards etc.

VI. Former boxer Primo Carnera "triumphs" in an obviously scripted wrestling bout.
