Synopsis

I. Berlin. Centenary commemoration of the March 1848 Revolution; wreaths laid at monument, presentation in theatre, and mass rally addressed by leaders of SDP, CDU and LDP parties.

II. "Streiflichter aus Deutschland." a. US freighter Gretna Victory unloads supplies collected by 'Friendship Train' in America (see issue 137); a new train is put together and drops off sections for different Zones in Dsseldorf, Mainz, Coblenz and Frankfurt. b. A garment making school/factory built by and for refugees at Kappeln. c. A school for staff in tree nurseries and orchards (lessons in pruning, grafting cuttings).

III. London: rebuilding the House of Commons (film of war damage; architect's models; builders, wood-carvers and stonemasons at work).

IV. Burma becomes an independent republic. Rangoon celebrations; Mountbattens watch ceremonial raising of new flag and a programme of Burmese dancing in Delhi.

V. "Science as detective". Examples of the work of forensic laboratories (eg recovering filed-off numbers, examining typescripts, firing guns etc).

VI. "Bilder aus aller Welt." a. A magnificent butterfly collection in Warsaw. b. Demonstration of a fireproof door in USA. c. A trained chimpanzee act in Paris.
