Synopsis

Opening titles.

I. ‘Latest Film of the War in Italy’ View from high ground over Aerno, during bombardment as soldiers look down into valley. Jeeps and vehicles on the move; overturned and destroyed tanks. Troops entering badly damaged city (boots seen walking over piece of debris emblazoned with swastika). Rations distributed. Troops on manoeuvres and in camp: Japanese-Hawaiian American troops smoke and prepare food. General Montgomery visits General Clark at Naples as 8th Army pushes up coast. Shots of destroyed German aircraft at Montecorvino. Troops on the move.

II. ‘Dramatic Rescue of Airmen from Burma Jungle’. Item on a group of Allied airmen whose plane was lost over the Assam mountains, Northern Burma, en route for China. Aerial shots of forested hill country, and of supplies being dropped by aeroplane over indigenous village where stranded airmen were being cared for by villagers. Scenes of indigenous Burmese in forest clearing; group of Allied soldiers, (including gurkhas?), some shirtless, walking along jungle path, then posing for the camera. Many carry spears.

III. ‘Polish Patriots Hail Pulaski’ Large parade in New York to celebrate American revolutionary hero General Pulaski. Parade is reviewed by General Dewey and the Polish ambassador to the U.S.

IV. ‘Personalities in the News’ General Arnold alighting from aircraft on visit to US airmen in UK. Salutes the camera. Inspects battle-damaged aircraft. Shots of Clark Gable in military attire; ‘Michigan’ – Prototype Sikorsky helicopter is donated to Henry Ford’s museum; ‘New York’ – Princess Martha of Norway visits Norwegian Naval training station near New York, and decorates Norwegian officers for gallantry.

V. ‘Yugoslav Airmen in US Honored by Roosevelt’ On the completion of a fleet of new Liberator aircraft, Roosevelt addresses Yugoslav airmen with a message exhorting them to use the new aircraft to ‘drop bombs on our common enemy’ and to deliver supplies to Yugoslavia.

VI. ‘U.S. Bombers Smash Jap Bases in South Pacific’ Southwest Pacific Air Force attacks Japanese positions on north New Guinea, Nubia, Hansa, and the Gilbert Islands. Flight of P-38 Lightning fighters. Aerial shots of fighters and bombers (B-25s?) attacking Japanese positions. Dramatic scenes of low-level strafing of targets and bombing raids. Japanese ships on fire at sea, Tarawa. American fighter planes returning to carrier. Shipboard hi-jinks: crossing-the-line party, play fighting, novelty haircuts.
