Synopsis

Opening titles.

I. ‘Flying Forts Battle Nazis over Germany’ Bombing raids on Marienburg and Schweinfurt. Numerous ‘Flying Fort’ (B-17?) bombers on ground; then flying in formation, seen from below (over thirty aircraft in this shot). Shots of bombing, explosions on ground, anti-aircraft fire. Machine-gunners firing; fighter planes in action. Bombers on ground, showing extensive battle damage. Lightly injured airmen. American airmen congratulating each other.

II. ‘Allied Southeast Asia Commanders Meet in India’ Lt-Col. Stilwell, General Somervell and Admiral Lord Mountbatten seen disembarking aircraft and greeting one another on the tarmac.

III. ‘Italian Civilians Killed by Nazis in Naples Blast’ Item concerning German-planted delayed-action bomb in Naples. View of Naples harbour from high ground. Scenes of scuttled ships and general destruction in the harbour. Crowd of civilians. Smoke; injured man on curbside. Aftermath of delayed-action bomb (commentary identifies scene of bombing as the Post Office): debris in street, medical crews pick up injured survivors. Dead and injured civilians, including dead baby. Military and medical crews working in the rubble. Distressed civilians.

IV. ‘Liner Normandie Salvaged – Moves to US Drydock’ Various shots of the fire-damaged French liner Normandie as fleet of tugs move her into a drydock New York to be re-fitted as a Navy transport.

V. ‘America Votes in Wartime Election’ Queues as voters line up to cast their votes; shots of votes being cast and candidates(?) casting their votes. FDR goes to cast his vote.

VI. ‘Australians in Dramatic Jungle Battle with Japs’ Rugged, forested hill terrain. Infantry line snakes through bush. Soldiers seen setting up camp; eating and smoking. Infantry walking through bush; shots on soundtrack signal start of battle. Troops in battle: shelling, artillery fire and machine gun fire in thick jungle. Injured soldier. Numerous Japanese corpses. Wounded soldiers are carried back through difficult jungle terrain, native porters assisting.
