Synopsis

Opening titles.

I. ‘U.S. Air Forces Battle Japs for Pacific Bases!’ Bougainville, Solomon Islands: aerial views as Liberator bombers and Lightning P-38s attack Japanese positions. American landings at Empress Augusta Bay, Gilbert Islands; U.S. troops haul barrels of fuel onshore and up the beach. Gun emplacement. Japanese attack hits fuel dump: shot of resulting fire seen through palms trees, as vast plumes of black smoke sent skyward. Scenes of airstrip being prepared; welders at work.

II. ‘Locomotives for Indian Railways Made in Canada’ Scenes inside factory as 66-gauge steam-trains are manufactured. Finished train exits factory in full steam, flying flags of U.K., U.S., U.S.S.R and (nationalist) China. Emblazoned on front of train: ‘Indian State Railways. Bombay. M1’.

III. ‘U.S. Hospital Ship Brings Wounded Home from War’ The Acadia arrives home in the U.S. carrying war-wounded. Scenes on board and at dockside, where stretchers are laid out. Numerous African-America soldiers pictured.

IV. ‘Army-Navy Stage Football Classic in Australia’ Large crowds gather to see American football match.

V. ‘Allied 5th Army drives forward on Italian Front’ Generals Eisenhower and Clark survey the Italian front. Artillery fire aimed toward Cassino. Hillside in flames. U.S. troops seen entering Lagone on foot and by jeep. Scenes of destruction. U.S. soldiers distribute gifts to local women and children.

VI. ‘United Nations Bombers Blast Nazi Europe!’ Airmen at British airfields prepare for bombing raids across Europe. U.S. aircraft (A-20 Bostons?) take off, and are seen from the ground, flying in formation. Scenes within command centre: women auxiliaries (Interceptor Command) chart missions. Mission Reports are filled in on blackboard. Bombers in flight; brief shot of pilot within cockpit. Bombs exploding dramatically in wooded area on ground beneath (the site of ‘cleverly camouflaged Nazi installations’: commentary sheet). Map of Europe, showing the gradual reduction of Nazi control over territory; arrows indicate that bombers are now striking deep into Germany. Boston bombers on low-flying bombing raid; dramatic sequence shot low over rooftops (identified by in commentary sheet as being within occupied France). Aerial shots: bombs exploding in industrial area.
