Synopsis

I. ‘Americans Win New Airbases in South Pacific’ Bombers (B-25s?) seen flying in formation toward Saidor. Bombing raid over small forested island, filmed from the air; bombs seen dropping and detonating on land and sea. Map shows the Admiralty Islands. Arrow indicates US attack on Los Negros Island at the eastern end of Manus; cut to scenes of US warships bombarding coast, followed by scenes of the mass landing of US cavalry. Troops seen moving through light jungle, followed by shots of intense artillery fire and shelling. Panning shot of waterlogged craters caused by ordnance, filled with dozens of corpses of Japanese soldiers. US troops crossing open ground at captured Momote airfield; destroyed Japanese fighter planes. Bulldozers felling palm trees, and moving earth. Brief shots of airstrip, with American planes manoeuvring on the ground.

II. ‘Jungle Outposts Get Supplies by Parachute’ General Stilwell at field hospital in Burmese jungle. Wounded are brought in by stretcher. Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Seagrave (‘The Burma Surgeon’) and Burmese nurses attend to patients. Scenes shot from air: supply plane over jungle terrain. Shots inside hull as crew drop parachutes into a treeless ridge (commentary identifies locations as Naga Hills). Map of Solomon Islands, Bougainville highlighted. Fijian signalman taps out morse code. Fijian troops in jungle camp elated as supply plane passes overhead, dropping supplies by parachute.

III. ‘Princess Juliana Visits South American Colony’ Royal convoy. Shots of the Princess Juliana of the Netherlands inspecting troops and viewing a military parade on Curacao (commentary: ‘Here, many miles from home, Juliana walks again on free Dutch soil’).

IV. ‘Allies Bomb Nazi Targets in France and Netherlands’ Map of Europe indicating areas targeted. Scenes on airstrip as bombers prepare for takeoff. Bombers (B-26 Marauders?) in formation flying through anti-aircraft fire; payloads being dropped, explosions seen on ground beneath. Returning planes come into land; damaged plane crash lands (successfully; landing gear appear damaged). Numerous bombers seen taking off in quick succession of shots; bombers seen in formation above the clouds. Numerous shots of bombs being dropped, filmed from a variety of positions and angles. Explosions on the ground below.
