MALTA

This film is held by the BFI (ID: 7622).

Synopsis

The island of Malta and particularly Valetta.

The film opens with a map showing the position of the island, and then shows the harbour and some of the shipping. This is followed by views of Valetta, with its battlements and streets, the Opera House, the Cathedral of St. John, and a few of the other objects of interest in the island. A close-up of a woman wearing the faldette (the Maltese national head-dress), a shot showing goats being milked in the streets and another showing how a prickly pear is prepared for eating give touches of local colour. There are also sequences showing the salt pans, and the quarrying of the soft stone. The film ends as it began with views of the harbour. (Monthly Film Bulletin)
