Synopsis

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince Henry and Princess Alice, on a tour of Eastern Nigeria, the Southern Cameroons and Lagos as the Federation of Nigeria approaches full independence and entry into the Commonwealth, starting 12 May 1959. In Eastern Nigeria, inspection of the Guard, the Eastern Assembly and speech by the Duke. In Southern Cameroons, arrival ceremony, Mano'war Bay Training Centre, Commissioner's Lodge, youth rally, rubber production. In Lagos, Guard of Honour, motorcade, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, Nigerian Naval Base and Ports Authority, Lagos War Memorial, Police College. At Maternity Hospital a speech by the Duchess. Lagos Museum and Queen's College.
